We started with a blend of our two most sought after IPA recipes, File This and Rays of Haze. Using those beers as a starting point, we then made some adjustments including tweaking the hops and malts as well as proving additional doses of hops throughout the process. Brewed with Citra, Amarillo, Simcoe, Motueka, Mosaic, and Columbus hops. This beer is thick, hazy, and juicy with layers citrus notes from the complex hop additions and dry hopping.

Reviewed on the day after can release for the brewery's 5th anniversary. Poured into a tulip glass. The color is a cloudy, dirty, burnt orange with a one-finger cap of ecru-colored foam and thick, clinging lacing. A big, bright, fruity aroma featuring lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange/tangerine, and ripe pineapple with some additional tropical sweetness. Compared to the nose, the taste opens dank and bitingly bitter. The fruit sweetness plays subtly against a strong crackery malt base. As it warms, the taste expands to include notes of red berry, pine sap, woodsy soil, and pepper. The Simcoe and Amarillo provide a strong dose of dank bitterness. This ale has a plush, creamy mouth feel with pleasant carbonation, and the 8.9% ABV gives it quite a pop. Overall, 5th Trip Around the Sun is a big, bold, flavorful DIPA and a fitting way to celebrate Untied's 5th anniversary.
