Dan lives next door to our brewer. He works up quite a sweat tending to his acreage with a perfectly maintained lawn tractor & a comfy pair of practical grey sweatpants.
Dan loves Munich Dunkels, so we fired up the home-brew kettles & made this recipe for him. We vowed that if we ever opened a brewery we would name this beer after him.
So here’s to The Man, The Myth, The Sweatpants, The Dan!
HOPS: TETTNANG
FLAVOR PROFILE: PRETZEL, CRISP, MALTY, TOASTED BREAD

Can dated 1/17/23. Sam Adams pint.
A: medium brown, a little hazy. Not much visible carb. One finger khaki head, fades to basically nothing. Some lacing.
S: sweet, chocolatey malt. Like a tootsie roll. A little herbal hop aroma. Decidedly lager smell. Little hint of noble hops.
T: arrives mildly sweet, chocolatey, rich, and then an interesting combination of what seems like smoke and herbal hops. Slightly medicinal, and sweet. Having this after two other, very different beers, so taste may be off. This starts fairly dry, but finishes a little sweet, which is opposite my preference.
M: definitely has a lager snappiness, but a little slick for a lager; lighter side of midweight.
O: I had this last year, and it came across like a schwarzbier or a brown ale. This tastes much more like a dunkel, but is still a little smoky, and a little hoppy. Texture is right, I think, but I just had this after a session IPA, and this feels impossibly heavy and sweet. Will have to revisit with a fresher palate.

12 ounce can, canned on 09/14/2022, another brew thanks to Brutaltruth! Served in a dimpled mug, the beer pours a dark brownish color with a tinge of red and about an inch light tan head. Head retention is good and there's a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like nuts, dark bread and caramel. Taste is similar to the aroma but with the addition of some toffee. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and a bit coating, easy enough to drink. Thought this was an enjoyable dunkel, worth picking up if you come across some.

I'm trying this at the brewery. It poured a clear brownish amber with no head and no lace. The scent had faint malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with good sweet malt bare and earthy highlights. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.
