BlechBrut GmbH “Asa Nisi Masa”
440ml can coded “best before 15.12.2021” and sampled on 27.09.2021
€6.49 @ Naiv, Frankfurt, DE
Notes: Brewed with barley, wheat, and oats. Hops are Talus and Mosaic.
Look: Cloudy golden body beneath a full-sized head of rocky white foam that holds well and leaves some very nice lacing about the glass.
Smell: Intense. Resinous, fruity with orange, apricot, lychee, and sweet berries.
Taste: Just as complex as the aroma with the heavy resins remaining upfront, peach, lychees, sweet berries, pineapple, and an edge of coconut. A firm bitterness backs it, and in concert with some hop burn and maybe a bit of alcohol, it finishes dry, bitter, and fruity.
Feel: Medium bodied but seemingly fuller, and smooth, due to the oats and extra proteins they and the wheat impart. Gently crisp.
Overall: An interesting NEIPA, particularly for one coming out of Germany. It is, however, from Bamberg, which makes a lot of sense. I wish that I could get more of this as the combination of lychee and coconut is really interesting.
