“Fogarea” is a toast to our brewer Chris Paumi’s New England roots. The beer is a New England IPA (NEIPA) that hits the senses with intense tropical fruit aromas before your nose even hits the rim of the glass. Brewed with copious amounts of Loral, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops, the beer is supported by a solid malt foundation rich with adjuncts. This malt foundation provides the backbone to let the hops shine and come through with every sip. Reminiscent of the vast array of leaf colors in the New England fall.

Right out of the gate, the brewing team at Fusion Brewing is hitting the trendy New England styled IPA head on with a tropical hop infusion of a medium bodied, moderately bittered beer.

Hazy golden, yet not ridiculously thick to the eye, the more normal looking Fogarea comes covered with a cottony white froth. Its tangy scent leads with the exotic tropical fruits with highlights of citrus, herb and tea. Soft but crisp on the early palate, notions of honeysuckle, cashew and angel food cake.

But then the hops take center stage when the ale crosses middle palate, shedding flavors of passionfruit, under ripened mango, papaya, lime, kiwi and yuzu. As the malt sweetness and bready body relaxes, the herbal bitterness sets in with fresh grass clippings, green tea, and a botanical nature of gin.

Peppery rather than resinous, a verbena and sassafras finish brings a lightness to taste just as the body shifts toward a malty dry aftertaste with the whimsy of tropical fruit peels and muddled herbs beckoning.
