A nod to Bergen County's unique place in America's War for Independence. This juicy New England style IPA was built around a base of British and American barley varieties and bolstered by generous additions of wheat and flaked oats. A carefully selected blend of Pacific Northwest and New Zealand hops lend pronounced notes of citrus and tropical fruit to the finish.

Hazy, light orange color almost a pale orange.
Nice head and lace.
Aroma of grapefruit, hops, some citrus
Hoppy but not too bitter upfront. Citrus fruits like grapefruit, orange.
light in the finish with medium body and carbonation.
The finish was not likeable ,yet the balance was pretty good.
I wanted more in the finish.
Still, a smooth finish with that citrus forward, mild bitter hops.

Musket Haze pours a hazy, organish color, with a large, long lasting head. Aroma is dry, and tropical fruity. Flavor is dry, tropical fruit, a hint of bitterness. Good body and feel. Overall, a very good fruity and dry hazy ipa.

Picked this up recently at the Bottle King in Morris Plains, as I thought this would have an old-time feel to it similar to something from Yards. Indeed, this was a nice mix of British and American barley that complemented the hops well, with the end result being a full and balanced IPA that was neither strong nor a hop bomb.
Of course, this was cloudy in hue with a muted golden appearance and topped off by an full head that settled evenly. A moderate amount of lacing stuck around with the semblance of rings being near the top and the splotches down below. A ton of barley was in the nose with hints of white peach, exotic tropical fruits, and floral notes as the taste was both juicy and well-rounded. Plenty of wheat helped to cut any fruit flavor but to soften this and make it nicely pleasing for a warm summer's night such as this one!
This amount of booze in this was just right as it complemented everything else going on and was not too strong. No date was written on the bottom of the can and the label was quite lovely and artful - down to the fitting quote from Thomas Paine. Indeed, this had a revolutionary flavor to it - both in terms of the era it invoked and the way it stood out from other beers of the sort from this neck of the woods. I'd easily reach for this again if I found it on the shelf the next time I was out!

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a Captain Lawrence, muffin top pint glass; no production information, but purchased at the brewery yesterday.
A: Pours a very hazy, orange to amber color with a more than one finger, foamy, off-white head, rim retention, but complex rings of lacing.
S: Aromas of ripe peach, orange, papaya, and pine.
T: Semisweet. I thought the fruit flavors were less loud and more of a papaya/ripe peach. Bitterness solid but balanced and acts as a counterpoise to the residual sugars.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Almost a creamsicle or Papaya King Tropical drink feel. Creamy, rich, and smooth.
O: Musket Haze is the flagship of Hackensack Brewing and a very solidly well-made NEIPA. Reminds me of some of the cold treats, mentioned above, I used to get as a kid (in NYC), albeit with alcohol now. Brings back happy memories.

A mediocre New England IPA from a brewery that prides itself on its stout. This is the beer they need to make, the crowd pleaser, but not where it excels. The cloudy body, thin head and tropical nose are by the book. And it tastes good, if unexceptional among this popular style.
