Appearance – Pours a dark cloudy orange brownish color with a very limited head that soon disappears to just a small ring around the edge of the glass. Lacing from that ring is pretty nice. Has a fair amount of sediment.

Smell – This has a really strong nose to it. I smell maple with a pleasantly sweet booze, vinegar, honey, raisins, and lots of malt. I find the smell to be amazing and give it a perfect score. Smell is definitely not what I was expecting from a “lager” (albeit a “strong” lager).

Taste – The taste doesn’t quite live up to the smell because it is weaker. It is missing the booziness that I smelled, but it has a lot of the same flavors as the nose, just not as intense. I taste raisins, honey, malt, and a slight hint of vinegar.

Mouthfeel – According to the bottle, this is an 8.7%abv beer, but I find that hard to believe. It tastes like it is maybe 6.0%. Very lightly carbonated, but not quite flat. I think they should turn up the alcohol level to 10% or more with this flavor, and they’d have an exceptional beer. As it is, it tastes slightly watered down (which is unusual for an 8.7% beer).

Drinkability – This goes down super easy for an 8.7% beer. As I said, I think they should try a similar taste with a little more alcohol. This might be the perfect complement to the existing flavors.
