Poured from a 16 oz can bought at the taproom in Apex, NC.
Extremely dark, opaque beer. Beautiful, rocky brown head upon pouring, but it disappears fairly quickly. Strong aromas of burnt grain, stiff coffee and some smoke; vanilla does not come through on the nose. Flavors are more gentle than the assertive aromas imply. The expected coffee and roasted grains are there, but are layered with vanilla and a sweetness that tone down the strong porter character in a pleasant way. Medium body and strong carbonation. Medium hops bitterness that arm-wrestles with the vanilla sweetness, Low alcohol warmth.
This is a very good vanilla porter with a nice blend of assertiveness and velvet.
