A single maple Heaven Hill bourbon barrel that aged one of our imperial stout bases for 26 months. Because this beer is a complete one-off and we will never have another 'Welcome' beer again, we went very heavy-handed on toasted and raw coconut with 60lbs/bbl. The end result is a pastry dream, and could very well be a breakfast replacement. Not only does the barrel character break through with incredible spice notes (particularly cinnamon), it also feels like liquified french toast that is doused in maple syrup with coconut flakes on top. It's a damn treat, and that's exactly what we want you all to experience in the inaugural year of Madera Members.

Tasting notes: french toast, coconut bars, milk chocolate, cinnamon

Pours black with a finger of caramel colored foam. Aroma is rich coconut, maple, and chocolate, with hearty roasty and toasty malts underneath. Barrel is present, but minimal, allowing the round, balanced coconut and maple to shine through. Coconut adds some expansiveness to the nose, with maple giving it a little extra sweetness. Caramel and mild chocolate round it out. Flavor profile brings forward the same two notes - coconut and maple, giving it a robust sweetness that is reeled in by hearty roasty and toasty malts. Milk chocolate and caramel show up later alongside barrel, but remain after thoughts. Balance is sublime, putting just a little sweetness out front before reigning it in. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a fuzzy, creamy texture. Overall, a sublime sip. Flavor additions are forward, but not overly potent. Remarkable.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 500mL bottle.
