We are always looking to learn and refine techniques for our pilsners. Given that, we decided to trial something fun with our beloved Premiant for a special, one-off, batch in which we sourced whole-leaf Czech Saaz. We tweaked the recipe to amp up the expressive Saaz character, which really highlights the whole-leaf characteristics. The biggest difference we get in this batch is a sweet lemon hop character that shines. It’s still the same bright and drinkable Premiant. Very familiar, but with a fun little twist.

Pours yellow with a clear transparency. Very light haze to the transparency, but nearly clear. Two fingers of white foam for head. Aroma is spicy, zesty hops with an immediate transition to crackery, wafery, doughy, and bready malts. Light on the last two malt notes, creating a zesty wafer aroma. Flavor profile builds on those same spicy, zesty hops, but adds in mild resin hops. Cracker, wafers, and biscuit malts add splendid balance and dryness. It's sharp and crisp. Mouth feel is medium-thin with a crisp texture. It's not overly sharp at any point, especially at the onset. Overall, a really refreshing, crispy lager that retains simplicity without sacrificing flavor or balance. The whole leaf hops used in this flagship elevate it to a different level.
