Pours black with two fingers of khaki colored foam. Foam has good retention.
Aroma is vanilla bean right on the nose. It's soft, with subtle sweetness that doesn't lean into cloying or syrupy sugar levels. Roasty and toasty malts underneath form a firm base. Barrel and char add a little bitterness at the back, while the whole aroma leans lightly sweet.
Flavor profile is roasty and toasty malts with vanilla bean right in between. It's hearty stout notes with sweet, not sugary, vanilla bean. Very subtle barrel and char, adding a little extra depth.
Mouth feel is thick with a soft, near-still effervescence.
Overall, a hearty stout with wonderful, playful vanilla bean notes. Not super sugary, not is it dessert territory, forming a nice balance of sipper and enjoyable.
Served in a 2023 AM membership glass from a 500mL bottle. Reviewed from notes. Review #3200.
