Veneer of Reality is an imperial stout aged for 22 months in a single barrel of Sazerac Rye. As we doubled down on a rye repertoire, we brewed this stout with a high percentage of flaked and chocolate rye as we knew its ultimate barrel fate. This single barrel release hits the foundational stout standards of milk chocolate and praline with an additional twist of candied spice and toasted marshmallow. We hope you enjoy the connection between barrel and base as much as we do.

Pours black with a finger of khaki foam. Semi-oily legs cling to the glass. Aroma is heavy roasty and toasty malts with caramel and molasses behind. Thick rye, barrel, and char stack up behind, creating complexity and depth. Later, as it warms, brownie batter and chocolate arrive, adding some minor sweetness. As a whole, the aroma is semi-sweet with heavy and dark undertones. No alcohol heat. Flavor profile is roasty and toasty malts with rye, molasses, brownie batter, dark chocolate, fudge, and minor dark fruits adding sweetness and contrast. Again, the alcohol is well contained, not adding additional heat, despite the obvious presence of barrel. Mouth feel is thick with a semi-creamy, lightly silty texture. Overall, really fantastic boozy brownie with some great barrel character sprinkled into the mix.
