The second iteration of Art of Confusion is a blend of imperial stouts that were aged in Willett bourbon barrels for 22 months. The blended barrels were then conditioned atop a fanciful foray of hand-toasted macadamia nuts, Ecuadorian cacao nibs, and Madagascar + Ugandan vanilla…essentially reverse engineering our way to a beer inspired by the humble and delicious chocolate macadamia nut cookie. We get loads of rich cocoa, earthy vanilla, and creamy nuttiness that weave in and out as the beer warms and makes its way from nose to mouth. It feels rich and decadent, but the bitterness from the nibs brings the sweetness to equilibrium.

Look - Pours a dark blackish brown color with no head.
Smell - Smells of bourbon, macadamia nuts, vanilla, and cacao.
Taste - Taste follows the nose - bourbon, macadamia nuts, vanilla, and cacao.
Feel - Though bourbon is the dominant flavor, it doesn't take over the beer and is very nicely balanced. The beer is also nicely creamy, and the feel in nice for 15%ABV.
Overall - This is a very nice stout, which I really enjoyed!

Pours black with no foam. It has moderate oil on the top. Flavor profile is nuts, cacao, and chocolate layered over roasty and toasty malts. Barrel is forward, with vanilla bean just behind. As a whole, it leans semi-sweet. As it warms, it develops a more fudge like character at the back. Subtle, but great punch of barrel. Flavor profile is thick blend of nuts, vanilla bean, and cacao. Barrel adds some additional complexity alongside char bringing forward some bitterness. Roasty and toasty malts beneath it all. Mouth feel is thick with a full and creamy texture. Overall, a full, rich, and fun imperial stout. This is a stout I probably wrote off too soon, but upon trying it - the macadamia nut addition is fantastic.
