Expect notes of grapefruit, ripe honeydew, gooseberry, and pine. We're bringing you another rendition of Levels, an IPA that experiments with hops that play well with one of our favorites, CITRA! This time we added a substantial amount of Dolcita, which is one of the newest trial varieties to be named.

Poured from a pint can (purchased at the brewery) into a pint glass.
This one pours a chalky, peach/straw color, with a thin head that leaves messy foam around my pint glass.
Oddly, I can't smell this one very well. Make me feel like I'm coming down with a cold (I am not). There's a faint orange rind and an electric wisp of pine.
That orange is there again, leaning in the mandarin direction. The hops follow up the juicy base with almost an electric surge of nipping pine. The dryness of the pine concentrates on my tongue (in a good way) and lingers with generic citrus rind. What really catches me off guard about this is how dynamic the hops are. They seem to swell in intensity and then fizzle out, enticing me in for another sip. There's a spiciness I can't put my finger on in the finish.
Feels heavy, the carbonation seems trapped amidst the beer when I take a swig, and slowly dissipates in my mouth. This likely contributes to the dynamism of how the flavor develops on drinking, too.
An enjoyable beer, for sure. It's fresh, competent, straight forward, and unassuming.
