Roasty, toasty, sweet and tangy, the cherry infused milk stout of Versailles Brewing hits all the flavor buttons while hanging their hat on a classic base of British milk stout.
Dark brown and a shade off of black, Cherry Milk Stout swirls with a delicate creme of espresso froth. Luring the nose with the robust scent of chocolate, coffee, light smoke and mesquite, a barbecue essence isn't far off. Roasted cherries tease the nose with playful fruitiness with a hint of wine. Sweet and caramelized, the beer's overt roasted character is countered with toffee, sorghum and cola.
Sweetness remains just as intense as its roast on the middle palate. Cherry flavors get only bolder while bringing a tartness of fruit acidity and its wine-like insistence. A light smoke character follows just as the sweetness begins to wain in finish. A light chicory bitterness sharpens the late palate while flavors of coffee and cola come in bold once more.
Full bodied but with a relaxed tone, the standard strength stout allows its long linger of sweetness to take an edge off of the roast but allows the beer to resemble cola late in taste, especially with the aftertaste of roasted cherries looming.
