big thanks to my in laws for picking this up in their travels, a really cool brett farmhouse ale, to me a brett brux profile, funky and mature, sort of medicinal, iodine notes, disinfectant, that kind of thing, but in a good way, some lambic character too in the nose, but this isnt sour at all. its awfully lively from the artsy bottle, nicely conditioned for sure, a high rising, even hard to control belgian looking white fluffy head, hazy straw colored brew underneath, not delicate necessarily, but rustic and appealing looking for sure. aroma has some serious wet animal and musty basement funkiness about it, raw wheat and earthy grains, but this is about the yeast through and through. it tastes to me like there might be multiple strains involved, maybe a low ester vinous saison element first, and then the brett, which really has established itself in here, some spiciness to it, not an overly complex beer, but a great showcase of this particular brett strain or brett blend, its slightly astringent without really having acidity somehow too. not quite as effervescent as it looks, but with very high carbonation still, and a remarkably fast finish. you have to like brett to enjoy this, as learned by sharing the bottle with some folks who are new to this sort of thing and couldnt quite get into it, but i thought it was exceptionally well done, and importantly, not overdone, a neat beer from a brewery i am just getting into. impressive and delicious, likely to age well, i hope to get to try more like this from atypical!
