real interesting beer, super sour, hits the jawline and all, makes the senses clench, but also real good, real vinous, aged in wine barrels if i remember the label print correctly, and you do get that, large format, cork and cage, cool art, these guys make some really neat beer, i cant wait to one day go there. gooseberries in this, maybe kettle soured but some amount of funk and wild character here too, not sure it shouldnt be listed as a wild beer, although the acetobacter here is off the charts. pretty pink color, almost no head, but quite carbonated really, perhaps the acidity prevents the head. anyway its a cool color and it has soft gentle haze. the aroma is insanely sour, past lemon to vinegar, even ammonia or something, really intense, with red currant and a medicinal thing, almost salty too, ive never had gooseberries this tart, and their identity isnt super obvious to me, like its almost generic fruity, even though i have no doubt real fruit was used and it actually doesnt come across as generic at all in that its unique to me. its pretty tannic from the wine barrel too which only adds to the perceived sourness, and this is almost intimidating, but its also floral and winey and interesting, very different, most would say overly sour, maybe unintentional at this level? the flavor is nice but it is hard to drink, the sourness just goes too far it almost does the same thing to my palate that salt and vinegar chips do, which is shred it up. the berries present like wine grapes and at this sourness its hard to really tell the difference, pinot noir character, a hint of raspberry, smelling salts, battery acid, whoa. its dry but it stays on the palate awhile, slow to finally mellow, mouthwatering and beyond that even, lemon and rose wine, quite a bit of oak, some way back rustic funk, a little grain body but its hard to get malt nuance here, and even though its super interesting, its a small doses thing, perhaps overly mature and matured, the pure acid heads will love it, but this is a little past the point of refinement, much as i did enjoy it and happily worked through my half of the bottle. this is different, not among their best, almost novelty level sour, but neat wine barrel treatment and fruity personality in this.
