Pours just shy of clear and straw gold. Almost no head and no lacing. And that's fine for the style.

The nose is full of welcome funk. Horse-blanket and hay all over this one, along with sharp citrus.

A bit more sweetness on the tongue than on the nose. Initial sweetness, however, gives way quickly to lemon acidity, and then modest horsey funk. The flavors are not as complex as the nose, but they are still inviting. Muted, in some ways for the style, but very well balanced.

The brew is solidly medium-bodied and slick. Very little carbonation, but good acidity. Slightly drying at the finish, owing to the decent ABV.

If this brew tasted as good as it smells, it would be world-class. As is--it's still an excellent wild ale.

At last a beer from South Dakota! Wahoo! Pours from the bottle bright gold with a finger of white bubbles. Smell is full of pineapple, lemon, mango, and lots of funk, especially lacto. Now the taste is strange in that it has a lot going on, but the pieces seem to have been arranged in a different way than the norm, but not a bad thing by any means, in fact the further down the glass I got, the more I enjoyed exploring it. Hard to explain. Strong lacto, but lots of different yeast flavors going on too, some hay funk, bright sour tropical fruit, peach, and lemon, a hint of minerals, and big acidity yet dry on the finish from the hops. Feel is a touch thin, and sneaky acidic to go with the sourness and dryness. A fascinating ale!
