Democracy B starts with Princess Lily, our imperial oatmeal stout for the base, and was aged in a 10-Year 4 Roses Single Barrel, and again in a few small-format Far North Minnesota Rye barrels. This delectable delight conditioned on Ugandan vanilla, The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. 86 Espresso, brewers blend of cocoa nibs, and black cherries.

Poured into a tulip.

Pours nearly black. Limited head. A ring of tan lacing and a touch on the surface. Despite all of the adjunct "stuff" going on, it still has the nose of an oatmeal stout--but there is plenty of chocolate, cherry, tobacco, leather, and coffee going on. The vanilla might be lost on the nose.

This one is dangerously close to being too sweet, especially on the first couple of sips, but somehow Covert seems to find a way to get away with that. Almost lactose-like sweetness. Here the vanilla is definitely present, along with chocolate. The cherry is mostly a back-seat participant. If the coffee was a bit more present, that would probably bring just a bit more balance.

I'm never going to call a 12% AIS "drinkable," but this one is pretty smooth. No alcohol burn or bite. Just warm. Slick--not chalky like this style sometimes can be. If there was 5% more carbonation, this would be a "5" on the "feel" for me.

Covert Artisan Attache Democracy Pick B BBA Imperial Oatmeal Stout, 12% ABV. Pours black, with a ring of brown bubbles that disappeared quickly, leaving no lacing. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, and cherry. Taste is chocolate, cherry, vanilla, and coffee, moderately sweet, slightly bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, if a bit light on carbonation, overall world-class. Barrel is 4-Roses.
