Let’s be honest: not all breakfasts are for winners. Some are for rolling out of bed at noon, ignoring yesterday’s responsibilities, and making questionable life choices before you’ve even had coffee. Enter Degenerate Breakfast, the maple coffee porter that knows exactly who you are—and loves you for it.

The moment you crack it open, this beer wafts unapologetic aromas of maple syrup, roasted coffee beans, and a faint whiff of oak—like someone lit a campfire at a diner and said, “Screw it, let’s drink breakfast.” It smells like weird decisions wrapped in a cozy blanket of toffee and espresso.

Then comes the first sip: bold, full-bodied, and smoother than your last apology text. It’s a stack of syrup-drenched pancakes soaked in freshly brewed coffee, chased with burnt sugar and toasted malt for good measure. Hints of graham cracker and dark chocolate sneak in to remind you this is decadence in a glass.

Degenerate Breakfast isn’t here to judge. It’s here to enable. Because some mornings are meant to sip beer instead of tea. So, skip the eggs, ignore the alarm clock, and raise a glass to life’s most deliciously degenerate moments. Cheers to you, you beautiful mess.

Degenerate Breakfast is an imperial porter done in collaboration with The Breaks Coffee Roasting Company. The porter was conditioned on Vermont maple syrup, and with The Breaks Cold Press Blend…Damn, Coffee is delicious. 10.5% ABV.

Prairie Artisan Degenerate Breakfast Imperial Porter, 10.5% ABV. Pours thick and black, with a one-finger brown head that left spotty lacing. Aroma is strong coffee and maple. Taste follows, plus chocolate, moderately sweet, slightly tart. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding to world-class adjacent.

Received a 6.3 oz bottle courtesy of bbtkd on 5-29-26.

Beer poured black as night with virtually no head into my snifter.

Nose has lovely notes of maple and coffee.

Taste is a large malt base that works wonderfully with the coffee and maple additions. Hopping along with the roasted coffee brings this back to an appropriately sweet finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, soft and smooth.

Overall, this is delicious, a wonderful body of blending!

Poured into a tulip.

Pours dark-brown/black with modest mottled tan/brown head and limited retention, but decent lacing.

Very pronounced coffee notes forward with maple present but taking second billing. A bit of burnt sugar and molasses too.

The flavors follow the nose, although they are just a shade sweeter than ideal--and yes, that's personal preference. Plenty of coffee on the tip of the tongue. Maple, vanilla/cream, and toffee in midstream with a fair amount of residual sugar. The finish is dark chocolate and a bit of herb.

If there was a touch more carbonation on this one---it would be otherworldly. That said, it's still remarkably drinkable given the ABV and sweetness. This is the second Covert brew in a row I've had that is almost syrupy, yet doesn't tip over into sticky adjunct mess territory.

Well, if you're going to promise/bill coffee and maple on the can, you'd best deliver, and this one hits the nose with both right out of the gate, but not in an artificial or weird way. About as strong but natural a coffee aroma as I've had in a beer ever. I rarely give anything a "5" in any category, but the aroma on this one delivers in every possible way. Everything else is pretty damn good too. It isn't as complex as CBS from a flavor standpoint, but it's still exceptional, and the aroma of this one is superior. Covert has officially taken over my top spot for SF brewers.
