Earl Grey Tea is added post-fermentation to this IPA which is single hopped with Mosaic. The bitterness of the hops and tea balance nicely with the orange bergamot flavor from the Earl Grey blend and the slightly sweeter malt flavor profile from Chevallier malt (a heritage malt from the UK used extensively in the 19th century).

Pours a murky dark orange with a finger of eggnog-colored head. Head retention is good. Aroma is Earl Grey with lemon grass and grassy, resiny, and herbal hops and biscuity, bready, earthy, doughy malts. Tea is very intriguing and blends in well, thanks in part to sticky hop notes. Flavor profile is Earl Grey with hints of lemon grass, grassy and spicy hops at the back adding a touch of sweetness and spiciness. Bready, earthy, toasty malts add a little base for the hops and tea, and help establish a balance. There is a light hop bite at the close of the flavor profile. Mouth feel is crisp at first, but turns into a more fuzzy texture as it sits on the palate. It has a medium thickness. Overall, it's a very novel beer, but uses tea well. The hop bite at the close is a bit much to help sway new drinkers to hoppy beers even if they do enjoy tea.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegalau tulip from a 16oz crowler.
