The place is way bigger on the inside than it appears from outside. Has that industrial/warehouse look with lots of brick. Decent sized bar with lots of large and small table seating. Good selection of beer. To go stuff is a little pricey. $16 for a 4 pack of 12oz cans is one the cheap side of their offerings.

First business I've seen in one particular building in the "Crossroads" area of Kansas City (just south of I-670 from 'downtown'). This particular location is a little far from the street car line, which means walk-ability takes a hit when traveling the downtown corridor, but this spot is well worth the walk. This brewery also connects the main cluster of breweries with Torn Label for walk-ability on a brewery crawl. Location aside, City Barrel's exterior is a garage door with windows and a hardwood, modern front door. The initial room is open space immediately to the right with a handful of tables to the left. It feels cozy and modern for dining. Walking through the next gateway reveals the bar and main dining area. Long communal tables account for about 40% of the seating, with 4-tops against the wall. A long bar features seating with a lively bar staff. The brewing room is roped off, with the ends on both sides open for standing room. Kitchen staff can be seen cooking and fixing meals behind glass at the end of the bar room. Service staff is friendly and attentive, although kinda slow. Bar staff was extremely fast and pleasant, even when the bar was packed. Selection focuses on sours and IPAs, particularly with an emphasis on barrel work - one of their tag lines. For those seeking something outside of that realm, make a stop at one of the other breweries off of 18th street in Kansas City, MO. Food is great, making it a worthy stop for someone seeking a quality meal or beer. The 'Second Best Espresso Bacon burger' was great, with the crossroads (house) fries on the side was fantastic.

Quality dropped to a '2' after having done nothing for brewery members. Very disappointing and borderline misleading purchase.

Well worth a stop.
