im fairly sure this is made by squatters, or at least the sticker was on a squatters handle where i encountered it. i have not seen their stuff outside of an actual wingers before, weird but intriguing. this is a solid double too, malty without being heavy, balanced without being either to sweet or too bitter, and more in the west coast tradition than anything else. this isnt perfectly clear and has a brassy luster to it, rich and frothy from the tap, holds its inch of white head well, and smells like a christmas tree with a little bitter orange in the mix, a fresh botanical element, and just a bit of noble spiciness, cool mix of hops here, familiar but uniquely robust. the flavor is solid too, cleaner in the ferment and maybe more professionally done than i thought the wingers stuff would be, more evidence this is a squatters product. the alcohol comes through a little bit not too much, and the hops linger oily not bitter on the swallow. slightly rich to drink, nice baked warm contribution from the malt, and i taste both elements the whole way. weird they have a single ipa also called slay, i mean come on with a little creativity, but this is good beer, some elements of candy and spice at the end with the booziness, sturdy but not heavy to drink, nice carbonation. if they are all at this quality, i am hoping some more of the wingers labeled stuff comes around these parts...
