Good Friends has an iridescent gold and a big, cascading white head. The head drops to a quarter of an inch, leaving a coating of lace on the Keowee pint glass.
The aroma resembles crisp biscuit with a good measure of saltine crackers and grain. There is also sweetness resembling applesauce.
This beer is quite bitter with a fair share of caramel. As suspected, the cracker flavor is strong. A mild astringency becomes more prominent in the long finish. Overall, the flavors are a bit muddy.
A sharp nylon texture combines with the light body, perhaps making the alcohol more noticeable than expected. The beer is well carbonated and crisp.
Good Friends tastes and smells similar to a German Pilsner. It is surprising to learn that this is intended to be a Kolsch. It is clearly a Summer beer and would do well with some fine tuning. Regardless, it is a good start and was poured into a crowler on opening day. Thank you Jason.
