Remember the West Coast IPA? If you're not a hop that's from the West Coast you're not invited to this party. Columbus, Cascade, and Centennial are used throughout. Lingering bitter notes are complemented by classic West Coast floral and citrus aromas.
Ben, one of the founding members of True Anomaly, developed this tasty IPA long ago in the driveway of the TABCO brewing headquarters (aka his garage). After experimenting with various yeast strains we found a particular English ale yeast that imparts a rich, complex flavor profile which balances the hop-forward character of this West Coast/House IPA.

12 oz. can poured into "perfect pint" style glass
(5/16/25 born-on date printed on bottom of can)
ABV NOTE: 6.9% printed on can (not 6.4% ... I'm guessing they adjust it batch to batch?)
L: a hint darker than pale yellow trending toward light gold (SRM 2-3) with an inch+ head of white foam, mostly clear liquid with a light haze in it; keeps a thick collar of ultrawhite foam; no major sticking or lacing
S: sweet, confectionary tropical and citrus fruits ... mango, grapefruit, pineapple, lemon ... and all with a thick layer of sweetness, almost like a lemon meringue thing; plus, green hops, they're playing in the background, dank and piney, cilantro, almost a green onion; overall, though, it's a very fruity sweet nose
T: much more bitter than the aroma with all of the fruit notes turning to fruit peel instead of fruit candy/confectionary; much more grapefruit and bitter grapefruit with now mere hints of pineapple or mango, maybe a wee bit of kumquat or tart underripe peach; despite a pronounced bitter bite up front, it isn't unpleasant on the back end; at times the "greenness" of the hops pops out and you get wee tastes of green onion and cilantro, almost but never exactly green pine needles
F: very light and crisp for a beer bordering on 7% ABV, loads of carbonation and a nice bit of slickness about it; sticklers might ask for a bit more heft, but I like it a lot as is
O: in a world oversaturated with the style, it's fine ... nothing that stands out but nothing out of bounds either with plenty of hop life still kicking at 3 months old; I might keep a can or two back for a few months in the fridge to see if the malt can take over a bit and add some sweetness ... a little would go a long way to pushing this nearer world-class range for me

From a can dated 2/28/25. Cloudy golden color with foamy white head. Strong citrus aroma on opening. Medium body. Citrus and sticky pine resin. Nice West Coast style.

Drank 9/3/24. Undated can, though I believe it's reasonably fresh.
Pour is crystal clear golden yellow with a dense cap of off white foam that lasts nicely; decent retention.
Nose is notes of citrus, grapefruit, and pine.
Taste is similar. Traditional WCIPA. Citrus rind, grapefruit, pine, balanced bitterness with a mildly bready malt backbone. Good beer.
Nice lingering mild bitterness and dry finish.

I enjoy the bitter and piney taste that lingers on the palate. Some sticky foam that remains on the glass. A nice clean crisp, hoppy West Coast brew. Well done for the style.

A: Pours a clear golden/yellow color. A head rises to over a finger with good retention, and lace left behind.
S: Classic west coast IPA in the nose. Citrus, pine resin an grapefruit. Big, aromatic, and fairly simple, but still enjoyable.
T: Like the nose, all citrus, grapefruit and pine resin. Minimal malts, which is to be expected. Strong lingering bitterness lasts forever, and borders on unbalanced, for my tastes, in that regard but still good.
M/O: A medium to full body. Effervescent carbonation, that is clean and dry. Definitely a good classic west coast IPA. I had a few of these with ease.
This will hit that spot for the old school bitter IPA crowd, which I have never been the biggest fan of. Though over the years I have been able to come to appreciate it much more. This hits the classic notes, but without a lot of nuance, or much more than the basic C hops notes, and borders on being unbalanced for me. Still, a small gripe. A beer I enjoyed, even if it doesn't hit the balance perfectly for my tastes, and that is a me thing, not a beer flaw, so others probably won't have that issue. Another good beer from True Anomaly. I think I enjoy this a little more than the score would suggest, might be bumping it up a few notches the next time I have it.

Pours a somewhat cloudy golden color with a thick foamy head. Head retention is very good as is lacing. Has a very floral aroma with a hint of piney resin. Same goes with the taste with a good amount of piney bitterness at the end and on the aftertaste. Light to medium bodied with moderate to heavy carbonation.
