Charlemagne’s Nightmare is Silver Branch’s biggest IPA yet: a double IPA clocking in at 8 percent designed to conquer your taste buds, just as Charlemagne conquered Europe. Charlemagne’s seat of power was Cologne, home to subtle, stately Koelsch. Fermented with a traditional Koelsch yeast, Charlemagne’s Nightmare was conceived to be the antithesis of this laid back style. Copiously hopped with Columbus, Amarillo, Cryo-Cashmere, and Summit, and double dry-hopped with Meridian, Citra and Summit, there is nothing subtle about Charlemagne’s Nightmare. Expect a juicy melange of tropical fruit finishing with a firm, resinous grapefruit finish.

Copper color, very bright, pours a nice dense white head with some retention.
Big dank hop nose, nice mix of fruit and pine aromas. Also smells malty and rich.
Wow. Huge slug of malt and hops early in the sip, with the malt and hops blending perfectly. Hop flavor is really nice, matching the aroma, and has a slight nutty character that I love. Hop bitterness in the finish isn't overpowering, but did get a hint of alcohol in the finish. Not surprising given the strength. Has a pleasant, lingering hoppy flavor and slightly bitter finish.
Medium+ body and medium carbonation. No astringency, and just a bit of alcohol warming.
The DIPA style is hit or miss for me. This one was a hit, as was big but not overpowering, and the malt and hops were well mingled.

Slightly hazy light copper, white head, retention isn't great but good lace
Lots of mango, papaya, a bit of muscat grape in the nose
Flavor pretty much follows smell, a little bit of caramel malt sweetness
Mouthfee land finish are a touch sticky, but otherwise where they need to be. Carbonation is appropriate
A really good DIPA. Possibly the best made in DTSS
