Nice Bay area themed brew has a pretty reddish and golden hued body and a solid cream colored head with surprising retention. Nose is mildly fruity and grainy. Earthy and grassy flavors but not really hops I know in the flavor. Malt is dominant but generally this is mild and drinkable. Clean finish and aftertaste.

Poured out into a clear chalice-like glass and it was a hazy amber color with a very small white head. The smell was of some hops and some malt. The taste was one of hops and possibly something sweet.

Beautiful amber color, brilliantly clear. Pours a moderate sized white head, tightly bubbled and with decent retention.

Slightly toasty malt aroma, and the earthy/minty Northern Brewer hop aroma. Has the unmistakable smell of a traditional Cal Common.

A complicated mashup of flavors, with the hints of caramel and toast initially, quickly subsumed by the hop flavors. Nice earthy hop flavors gradually become more bitter as it transitions to a relatively dry and bitter finish.

Medium body and med-high carbonation. The carbonation helps dry out the finish. Hops not astringent, but do linger on the tongue a bit.

A nice Cal Common, with the hop character very fresh and prominent.

Amber with a bit of chill haze, dense finger of off-white head. Great retention and lace
Intense malt aroma, a bit toasty, a little fruity
Malty, a smidgen of minty hops, grape-like fruitiness, a nice minerality to make it crisp.
Clean, medium mouthfeel. Appropriate carbonation.
A nice mid-fall beer.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.

Nicely copper hued body with a nearly crystal clear appearance. Very fine limited amounts of carbonation slowly creep up to a rich lathering three finger khaki head. Big bubbled retention, while the head slowly settles with some pill like lacing. Very nice looking brew.

Very nice aroma for a steam beer. Brown spiced like sweetness of light toasted sugar and caramel on the nose, with a good fruity ester that hits almost into cherry like tones. Crispy clean sensing well with a nice berry like tone which is very impressive.

Palate hits with a good richness. First sip is a nice velvety nearly rich malt of light toffee and crispy caramel. The aftertaste is more hop pronounced and actually gathers steam (no pun intended) as the beer is finished and time passes. Bit of a harsh pine quality and tannic flavor that grows on the swallow which is a little unfortunate. The hop flavor begins to dominate what was a very fruity and clean caramel sensing lager.

Very good California Common, the bitterness and aftertaste unfortunately takes just a hair too much out of the other great qualities of the beer.
