This beguiling and fruity Belgian-style ale is replete with raisin, date, and caramelized sugar flavors. Approachable and super drinkable, it is worth every penny of a King’s Ransom.

From a crowler obtained earlier the same day. When sampled on-site had considerable head but very thin when poured from crowler into a snifter at home. A bit thin on body but nice taste, and more quaffable than expected. Malty with pepper and fig notes, nice for sitting and sipping during an evening boardgaming and shooting the breeze with friends - a roaring blaze in the fireplace would have fit right in, but ok, maybe early September wasn't the right season for that anyway.

Deep amber color, fairly clear. Poured modest head that didn't linger [fault may have been the glass I used - wasn't clean/dry to start]
Slightly peppery, dark fruit malt kind of aroma. Has a richness and complexity to the nose.
Has a spicy and malty flavor in line with the aroma. Malty and sweet, but that is tempered by the carbonation. Has a lingering malt note into the finish.
MF - Medium body and fairly high carbonation. Carbonation saves this one from being overly sweet, and makes it seem Belgian.
A bit weird to be pouring this one from a can rather than a caged large format bottle, but a nice fresh example of the style. Possibly a bit too sweet, but is a nicely drinking, malt and phenolic driven beer.
