Baxter and Harold harkens back to brewing traditions of yore, so slip on a tweed jack and your best faux-British accent and pour yourself a pint! A mildly smoky and oaky Old Ale, Baxter and Harold is brewed with pale and crystal malts, with a small addition of molasses and peat-smoked malt, and then aged on oak. Best enjoyed in your favorite easy chair by a fire!

Deep amber color, slightly hazy and pours a decent sized off white head.
Has a rich malty nose, sweet and toffee like.
Flavor matches the aroma with a nice hit of malt up front, a slightly plum-like deep malt character. A rich and pleasant malt flavor on the sweeter side. Turns slightly tart in the finish - any earthy hop flavors are very subtle. But does dry out some in the finish with a bit of the oak and smoke showing.
Medium-full body, medium carbonation. Very slight if any alcohol warming.
Overall is an easy drinking, malt forward, big British beer. A bit like a malty English barleywine. I'm generally not a wood aging fan, but guessing it helped give this one more complexity.

Cloudy reddish-brown (too dark to be an amber, too light to be a brown), khaki head, good retention, rings of lace
Toffeeish malts, a whiff of smoke, and a hint of earthy wood on the nose.
Mixed dried fruit, toffee, a hint of smoke, a bit of briny earthiness, like a salt marsh at high tide in the fall.
Light bodied, clean, drinkable, low carbonation.
This was a good choice for a rainy fall evening. Might have to buy some more to stash away for next year. Would be interesting to see how it is with a year on it.
