Not what i was expecting, but drinkable. It was like they tried to copy Guinness or someother stout, but just didn't get the recipe right. I would drink it again, goes good with typical American fare for food, which in my book is a big plus. You can drink it with almost anything, and it is not to filling. Could be more bitter though, thats about it.

Appearance: Dark as a moonless night. What one would expect from this beautiful style. The head is a darker tan than a Guinness, and while it does last quite a while, it becomes pretty rocky. Looks exceptional.

Smell: I can only pick up a malty smell. Very pleasing, but not impressive.

Taste: Strong notes of dark chocolate and coffee accompany the roasted malts. This is one fine tasting stout.

Mouthfeel: Not as thick as I would have expected, but still nice.

Drinkability: Very "quaffable." Smooth, lovable.

Drink some if you're in Hartford, or make the trip anyway!

A slight derivation of Deirdre Does Donegal? Dark, dark brown with a foamy light brown head with uneven caps across the top like a fluffy mogul field after an overnight blizzard. Very light aroma of roasted malt. Flavor is deep rich roasted malt, with raisin, fig, and burnt toast. Mouthfeel is somewhat watery with low carbonation. Light oily lacing slides down the glass. A smooth cocoa aftertaste lingers on the palate. Very nice selection, and the photo of Deirdre on the web site is pretty damn cute.
