I picked up some 16 oz cans of this beer at the brewery courtesy of Sam the head brewer. The beer pours a deep dark black color with a creamy tan head of 1 cm that fades very quickly to an edge layer.
The aroma is rich with bourbon notes and some vanilla, just a little bit of brown sugar and dark roasted malt. The first sip reveals a silky smooth texture and fine and gentle carbonation.
The flavor is all malt and bourbon, I get brown sugar, some dark chocolate. The bourbon is dominant however with a bit of vanilla coming through as well. The bourbon sweetness enhances the drinkability of this beer without making it too cloying.
I dont get any hops on this one, and the abv is pretty high, yet well hidden. There is a bit of warming on the burps, but otherwise this beer drinks very easy for its umph, making it a little dangerous.
Im glad to have sampled this brew and would hope that others go to the brewpub in Hartford and give this beer a run. Especially for bourbon and malty lovers. Quite a nice big beer that is just in time for fall.
