Just as the name suggests, you don't want to anger this beast of a beer. Lunatic is the first handcrafted batch put together solely by our Assistant Brewmaster, Andrew. He did not disappoint! This is a ale drinker's ale, guaranteed to put some hair on your chest. (Sorry, ladies.) If Chuck Norris could cry, his tears would be made of Lunatic. Technically an American Strong Ale, this beer finishes as a cross between a barley wine and a triple IPA. You may not be used to enjoying this quantity of hops from such a dark and robust ale, but trust us- it's worth the price of admissions.

Sampled this beer during a lunch visit to the brewpub. Arrived cold and in a normal water glass / tall tumbler. Beer is dark chocolate hue with some caramel and highlights. A fairly cloudy brew as well. Minimal head basically some frothy edge layer that is gone almost immediately after a few sips.
Aroma is not as hoppy as expected with the triple IPA descriptor. I do get some toffee and chocolate mixed with brown sugar and earthy and herbal hops mixing, but there is no massive hop hit and the aroma overall doesnt punch you in the face.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with gentle carbonation and a bit of a sticky texture that coats my palate and lips after each swallow. Flavor is much maltier than anticipated with caramel toffee and some dark fruit, raisins I think. I also do get grassy hops on the finish, but no where near what I expected when I ordered the beer. I dont get any hits of the booze which is hidden well.
An easy drink for its size and maybe not the best choice for lunch when I had to go back to work, but definitely a fine beer and one I would try again if its still on tap during my next City Steam visit.
