the first beer i tasted in here, and arguably my favorite from our visit, although there was quite a bit of diversity on their beer menu which is cool. this is a well made, simple, and low alcohol milk stout jazzed up with quite a bit of jalapeno, fresh to me, probably seeded and soaked first, as the heat is really mild in it, but the flavor is fresh and vegetal and distinctly jalapeno, a cool add in a style i feel like doesnt see pepper as often as it could. the peppers almost make my mouth water in the nose, and then the milk sugar balances any heat in the flavor, its kind of a tease, but i dont want this to burn and i am glad that it doesnt. a nice dark chocolate note to the stout, but its the english ale yeast style that unites the grain and the pepper, subtle as it is, its presence is key for balance and unity. a little warmth in the back of the throat at the end, but enough to slow down drinkability. a uniquely texas beer to me, surprisingly one of only a handful that i feel like embraced a texas identity that we had around san antonio. one of the better beers on the menu here when we were in.
