A very good WCIPA. The bitterness lingers a good long time

From the bottom, stamped on the can: "L5 CANNED ON: 2/16/20 11:54:12 #NOTICETHIS"

Appearance: The body is a darker shade of bronze with a very light haze and a slight opalescence. The head is off-white and creamy textured with pock-marks. The beer has great retention and leaves a nice stratification of lacing.

Aroma: There is a light lemon tea aroma to the beer along with a hint of caramel sweetness on the nose. Alcohol comes through from time to time.

Taste: Up front there is a lemon-lime character. Sliding from the front to the middle there is this faint caramel sweetness that transitions into toffee at the back of the tongue. In the middle there is pine and caramel sweetness. The aftertaste has this interesting charcoal character.

Mouthfeel: It has a good, strong bitterness. The body is medium-full leaning towards the upper edge. The alcohol seems to make a stronger appearance than it should.

Overall: The label states that this is a "WEST COAST INDIA PALE ALE." It has a nice pine character and a nice bitterness. The label states that this is "6.4% ALC. BY VOL." but the alcohol character and presence seems stronger than this. Also there is a sweet smelling aroma to the beer as well as a sweet taste to the beer that seems to fight the bitterness a bit rather than balancing it. The beer is worth checking out if you want a sweeter edge to your IPA. I probably wouldn't buy it again but it's worth trying as a single or a taster if it's available. The highlight of the beer is the gentle pine character with the subtle sweetness. The downfall is that subtle sweetness compounds itself and becomes sweeter with every sip.

Poured a copper body with minimal head and lace ring. Soapy, citric aroma with faint malts in the aroma. Clean, smooth, citric, slightly oily, dank, hints of malt sweetness add balance in background and has a clean, crisp finish.
