An awesome hidden gem, Café de Bascule is a great little lambic cafe on the outskirts of Halle. Nearly 2 dozen lambics available, and a respectable collection of trappists too.
Atmosphere is quirky, cozy, and well worn in. Unique touches all around the place, a taxidermy fox, an antique livestock scale, lambic pitchers, a piano, a comic about lambic & faro, and a handsome porcelain tap tower painted with deer. Antique tile floors, a potbelly stove, tall windows with flowerboxes looking out onto idyllic pasture.
Mostly Flemish spoken, but we got by with English. Newer younger owners, so the crowd is a good mix of young & old. Gerd (pronounced Heert) was the barkeep and he was super friendly and talked with us for a bit, even offering a bonus draft of Boon Schaerbeekse Kriek. We loved our time here and will return again for sure.
