As I was winding down for the night, I explored a kettle sour. Opting for a tulip glass, I served the beer at a refreshing 46 degrees. The pour unveiled a striking foamy pink head, albeit with a short lifespan. The remnants of the head left a delicate lace on the glass. The beer's color, a vibrant pink with a hint of red, was a lovely sight. The clarity, primarily with lively carbonation bubbles, added to its visual appeal. In terms of appearance, this beer stands out in its style. The visual allure of this beer was so captivating that I could almost taste the refreshing tartness just by looking at it, building up the anticipation for the first sip.
The initial aromas are earthy, with a touch of funky and lightly toasted malts. The beer carries a distinct vegetable note with undertones of fruity sweetness. Lastly, I detected hints of lemons and acidic acid. While I didn't pick up the prickly pear note, the subtle fruity sweetness alludes to it, adding to the beer's aromatic complexity.
The flavors begin with a unique blend of funkiness, earthiness, and a touch of barnyard. The tartness is present but not overpowering, with hints of lemon and acidic acid. The malt profile brings a lightly toasted note. The fruit in the beer is subtle but has a distinct cati vibe to it, with a skosh of fruity sweetness. This beer's complex and balanced flavors are a true delight for the taste buds, leaving you craving for more.
The mouthfeel is tart and has a dry finish. The body is light and has high carbonation.
This beer reminds me of Granddad's prickly pear jam. Prickly pear has muted flavors of raspberry, melon, and pineapple. I could not pick up any of those, but I got a cati note that told me this was not a typical sour. I enjoyed this sour; it is not overly tart and is dry. It is a perfect summer beer by the fire.
