Actually thought this was going to have Barbe Rouge hops in this given the name but I was wrong, none were noticed anywhere, must be brewery just screwing people like me. Anyways, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking burnt orange murky/hazy color with a beautiful level foamy head of two fingers. This slowly slid off to leave some slight lace running into the sips.
The aroma had some grapefruit juice playing with it's own bitter rind and rolling into some clean biscuit maltiness.
The flavor seemed to keep the sweet hops forward while spreading some bitterness in and around in a nice stylistic sort of way. Mild aftertaste of orange to grapefruit juice/pith character.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a gentle hop spice rolling in but nothing bothersome (just noticeable). Nice low carbonation as expected as a New England styled IPA. Somewhat of a hop spicy finish with some grapefruit rind.
Overall, the more I think about it, the more I think the brewers decided to screw with me but saying it's not nice Barb to not use Barbe Rouge hops but let's use some hops that come across a bit more bitter than normal for most New England styled IPA's. Alright, I get it, joke's on me now. Goodnight.
Well, shit, hmmmmmmmmmm....insert "whatever" emoji.
