Imperial stout with pistachio and vanilla, aged in rye whiskey barrels for 17 months.

Thoroughly pastry thiccboi, but very well executed and with excellent barrel character. The pistachio and vanilla stand on their own but also occasionally create a nose of maraschino cherry through a strange alchemy. Chocolate sugar wafers on the nose, peppery rye notes, and wildflower honey.
The heat from the 17% ABV is nicely integrated into the rye spice and general booziness of the barrel treatment. I have not had the base Monstro beer for comparison, but I would imagine that the high alcohol content would be much more noticeable without the rye whiskey component.
