Poured a glowing hazy orange from the can, capped with a thick white head that settles into a creamy layer and clings to the glass. Looks like something Teddy would describe as “juicy but not suspicious.”
Aroma comes in bright with tropical fruit, citrus zest, and that Nelson Sauvin white grape note that feels fancy enough for Linda to break into song about. Waimea brings citrus and a touch of pine, while Citra fills in with orange and soft tropical vibes.
Flavor follows strong with mango, pineapple, and orange upfront. Nelson adds the gooseberry and white grape character, the kind of thing Jimmy Pesto would try to pass off as “authentic Italian hops.” Waimea brings citrus oil and a bit of grassy bite, and Citra keeps everything fruity and smooth. Big flavors without tipping into boozy chaos.
Mouthfeel is plush and soft, medium to full body with gentle carbonation. Easy drinking for a double and smoother than Bob trying to explain why he is definitely not in a feud with Jimmy Pesto.
Overall:
A polished, expressive NE DIPA that shows off the Waimea and Nelson combo extremely well. Bright citrus, tropical fruit, and a clean grape note create layers without heaviness. False Idol delivers another Texas haze winner. If you enjoy NE DIPAs that drink easy but still pack real hop character, this one is worth grabbing. Even Jimmy Jr. would stop interpretive dancing long enough to take a sip.
