My first review in 12 days as my battered body recovers from the Virus from Hell. Arrives in a 16 oz. can with the bottom waxed...in black. Huh.
Helm of Awe brings back warm, fuzzy memories (now very, very old) of D&D campaigns of yore. And yes, I know precisely where all my books are. The pour is very dark, borderline stout with a touch of coppery scotch ale around the edges. Nose: bourbon. Taste: a bit muddled. Not sure the blend quite took. Plenty of oblique-warming bourbon, which is a positive, but the beer underneath is confused, part roasty stout, part smooth scotch precision. Despite the shortcomings, easy to sip.
One word comes to mind - interesting. Not great, not bad, but a sizzling barrel with odd beer underneath. Very good.
