Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla, green pepper, rye and mild hot pepper. Flavor is dark toasted malt, hints of cocoa, coconut and peppers with a light pepper burn in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A somewhat mild stout for a 11% barrel aged brew. The profile tasted and felt more like a milk stout than the usual toasty malt in most aged stouts. Not really getting much barrel character except for a hint of rye in the aroma and a mild fruity rye note in the taste. Both the coconut and Ancho peppers and at a modest level and add some character without taking over the flavor. That's always welcome with those two strongly flavored additions. Although it seem rather laid back for a BA stout, its milk stout flavor is very nice and rewarding. Not what I expected, but enjoyed it quite a bit.
