MOUND is our Barrel Aged Wild Ale with 5 gallons of Montmorency cherries… You might confuse this one with carbonated cherry juice, but we promise it’s beer! Why the name MOUND? We put so many cherries in this beer, that we had to pile them up to fit inside the tank!

A pale fuchsia head is composed of fine bubbles that build and hold one inch, briefly. After about one noisy minute of crackling, there is no evidence of the head remaining. The beer is a bright, cherry-apple red and gem clear in a PBGC Imperial 2 snifter. Fat columns of micro bubbles are a constant within.
The aroma opens with sour cherry juice and cinnamon up front. Currants and cranberries follow. What is initially very pleasant and fruity later becomes muddy and a little astringent. This turn of events is rather unfortunate.
The flavor is quite tart and almost equally sweet. Cherries fill the early experience, while currants and cranberries play a strong role. It is fresh, bright, and vibrant, with light oak coming into play as it warms. The finish is long, with a mild tartness similar to cranberry juice.
A sticky and silky smooth texture is a little odd, given the light to medium body. Light residual sugar builds on the lips. Alcohol is about as expected and there is a burst of fine carbonation with each sip.
This is a nice reminder of Summer, and a premonition of Thanksgiving to come, all at once. This is a pleasant and comforting beer, especially out on the deck during a warm, early November afternoon.
