Silky Road pours golden and chill hazed (SRM 5-6). Tiny bubbles randomly form within and slowly rise to a puffy almond head. The head has a slight orange tint and builds to one half inch before quickly falling to a thin blanket. Spotty lace is left on a Spieglau IIPA glass.
Pinesap is strong with pine straw shortly behind. Clean grapefruit eventually follows with caramel malt and light toasted aromas. Earthiness grows with time.
Bitterness is prominent with light sweetness. Pine flavors are forward with no fruit to be found. Straw and grain flavors lead the way to a long, moderately bitter finish. Late in each sip is a distracting, burnt rubber flavor. Warmth allows some sweetness into the finish.
The body is medium to full with a smooth, woollen texture. Alcohol is about as expected. This beer is well carbonated, however, that does not remove a lingering coating on the tongue.
This is a decent, though mild, West Coast variety of an American IPA. I enjoyed it mid-afternoon on a hot summer day.
