Oso Perezoso IPA was our first beer we brewed and it was the reason, why we converted from home brewers to a craft brewery. People all around us liked it so much and asked us to sell it to them, so that we had to get permits for production and distribution.

This beer comes in a 12oz bottle with a 6.7ABV that you would not notice in the least. This beer is anything but boozy. It pours rather thick and there was no head at all. I had this beer in a restaurant and then from a package store and it was the same with each. The beer is a decent amber but the nose is really misleading. It almost has a coffee smell to it and is no indication of what come next. The beer has very little hop profile and according to the bottle uses Simcoe and Centennial hops with 45IBU. You wouldn't know it. The beer is pretty good, refreshing, tasty, a fairly pronounced malt forward profile for an IPA. It is a bit on the sweet side, almost a touch of a more medium bodied saison to it, probably more so than an IPA. The beer type may be a misnomer but that doesn't mean the beer is not worth seeking out if you are in Costa Rica. There just aren't that many "artisanal" choices so get it if you can, while the adjunct crap can be found everywhere. I hope that changes.

Bought and consumed in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Poured from the 350mL bottle into a wine glass.
The beer is a murky dark orange color with some amber hues, similar to a blood orange juice. Head was 2 fingers thick, off-white to light tan and foamy after a somewhat hard pour. Moderate retention with no lacing.
The smell is somewhat light, earthy and citrusy, with orange peel being a highlight. Balanced aroma with some bready malt shining through. Yeast is slightly detectable and adds a sourdough aroma.
Taste is balanced with an emphasis on some tropical fruits. Earthy hops and some citrus peel round out the hop profile. But the beer has plenty of malt backbone in there to keep the hoppiness together. It never becomes too overpowering. Balance remains throughout. Finishes with a touch more fruitiness.
Overall: This is a solid IPA that is immensely drinkable. One of the better ones that I have had here. The hop profile is a bit more subdued than expected, but the balance is certainly refreshing. I will get this again.
