objectively speaking, this might be the best beer i had from these guys while i was in, at least from a technical and professional standpoint. its deep and dark and frothy headed from the tap with high luster, looks like a big stout in my glass, viscous and sturdy, with strong notes of dark chocolate and freshly lit cigar in the nose, very much of the robust porter style, which we really dont see enough of anymore, in the race to make everything as high volume drinkable as possible. there is a cool mocha taste to this, a little smoke and tobacco too, that little brown sugar sweetness in the middle, but its not too much, it kind of is needed for balance against the bitter coffee element in the dark roasted malt. i do appreciate some lighter chocolate type malt in here, and as robust as this is, its also got some elements of a brown ale to it, almost english somewhere in the grain profile, neat complexity as it warms up too. overall a solid example of the style and a lot of cool flavor in a beer this low in alcohol, sturdy enough for all seasons though too, and on the whole quite an enjoyable drink. good work on this one.

This was a bit too light for my taste, but I tend to go for bigger heartier porters, so do with that what you will. You get a touch of cinnamon and chocolate in there, so it was almost more like a brown ale than a porter. Not a bad start, but let's see them pump this one up to about 7-8% ABV and see how that goes.
