Drank from a one pint - 16 fl. oz can purchased at Skygazer Brewing Co, Southington, CT
Served in a teku
Viscous, near pitch black appearance. The shimmery, oily looking liquid was topped by a small, frothy, caramel colored crown that quickly fell to a lasting collar. Streaky, spotty lacing stuck all along the glass.
The aroma was fantastic. Mocha notes dominated. Loads of freshly brewed, darker roast coffee. Rich chocolate syrup and chocolate fudge notes were also apparent. Sweet cream and vanilla came through as well. Roasted malts were noticeable too.
The flavor profile was very similar to the nose but somewhat more boozy and harsh. Malty and robust up front. Nice melding of both dark roasted and sweet caramel malts. Coffee was also quite noticeable. Darker roast coffee and/or espresso perhaps. Chocolate appeared in the center. The chocolate presence here was definitely more subtle than in the nose however. Touch of creamy lactose and vanilla. Boozy on the the back and the finish. Bitter roasted malts lingered after the swallow. There was a subtle metallic quality initially, but this quickly dissipated.
Outstanding mouthfeel. Oily and viscous. Full bodied for the style. The liquid contained a super fine, fairy aggressive effervescence that turned uber frothy and silky smooth on the palate.
Skygazer’s Tiramisupernova is a big, rich, mocha forward imperial milk stout, much in the vein of the beers in Tree House’s Double Shot series. Although these folks have been making a name for themselves with their fruited Berliner Weisses, their pastry stouts seem to be really impressive too.
