Thanks to my sister Vanessa for grabbing me a four pack of this.
Impressive appearance. The beer poured a full bodied, dark violet hue that was reminiscent of blueberry juice. A inch-plus tall, super tight and creamy, light purple crown topped the body and fizzled away at a medium pace. Small patches of sticky, drippy lacing coated the glass.
The aroma was amazingly fruity and complex. Blueberry came through strongest. Good dose of ripe apricot as well. Tart and tangy tangerine notes were also apparent. Hint of vanilla and milk sugar too. As the beer sat, the tangerine became more pronounced.
The flavor profile was also impressive but definitely more tart. Tangy tangerine notes led things off on the front end. Underripe blueberries were apparent as well. Bit of juicy apricot too. Sweet vanilla and milk sugar (possibly marshmallow?) came through in the center. More tangerine and lemon on the back end and the finish. There was a nice lingering sweet-tart quality after the swallow. With time, the blueberry intensified and the beer became sweeter and more rounded.
Nice fuller bodied, nectar-like mouthfeel. The liquid contained a super fine and ultra mellow effervescence that worked nicely for the style. This definitely reminded me more of fruit juice than beer.
Watercolors - Apricot, Cherry, Tangerine, Blueberry, Marshmallow and Milk Sugar is a super tasty and balanced fruited kettle sour that seemed to get even better as I drank it. I would gladly seek this out again during its next release.
