Subtlety is not a virtue. In the time and place where smoothie sours reside, the mantra is "more is more" and that certainly applies to Skygazer and their fruit infused sour ale.
Pouring a muddled purple and burgundy, Watercolors ai generated synthwaves II builds a bubbly froth that falls off to leave the beer looking smoothie and slushie-like. As the radiant fruit perfume radiates toward the nose, there's a juicy sensation with hints of tangy white wine and cider that leave a cobbler-like impression on the nose. Very sweet in the early tastes, the beer's richness is taffy-like with notions of pastry, freshy macerated fruit and heavy cream.
Those individual fruits seem to explode on the middle plate as those bolder and darker fruits of blueberry and cherry lead the way in taste. Not to be overshadowed completely, a backdrop of tangerine and apricot add a racy citrus and a deeper stone fruit complexity to the mix. All together, the beer tastes like melted blackberry sherbet with a hint of wine spritzer for a strong fruit punch roundness on the later palate. A low level spice and bitterness seem of muddled fruit skins than of anything hop related as the ale relies on a tangy and tart character to assist in balance instead.
Full bodied, creamy and rounded with vanilla softness, the beer finishes tart and slightly cloying with a strong jammy mouthfeel that follows with a long aftertaste of dessert tart, smoothie and pie filling.
