I pity the intern who's in charge of deseeding the fruit from the hulls. That poor guy certainly doesn't get paid enough. But the Skygazer beer that results from those efforts are never taken for pomegranate.
Their Pomegranate version of Sour Crusher kicks off with tantalizing aroma of tart red berries, tangy citrus with hints of wine and cider to complement. Easy and sweet on the tongue, the flavors of taffy, fructose and a hint of pastry tart create a mild mannered malty balance in initial taste.
As the flavors unfold on the middle palate, the citrusy underpinnings of sourness release a lime, lemon and light grapefruit character while a more vinous tone of sour white grape brings a juicy succulence. With hints of gooseberry and passionfruit looming within, the attention quickly turns to the pomegranate additions and its tangy impressions of cranberry, rhubarb, cherry and strawberry with a spicier fruit seed finish.
Medium-dry and lighter in body, the tangy ale shares a cleanly lactic acidity with tangy fruit flavors that lead to a medium-quick finish and a brief echo of sourdough, dry burlap and fruit pectins for balance and dryness.
