16 oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour with foamy beige head. Aroma is roast malts, some coffee notes. Taste brings in the hops, some fruity sweet notes, and the roadt malts adding a bitter bite. Lots of different elements for all palates to enjoy.

Can poured into a Dust Bowl Brewing Co pint glass
A: Pours dark mahogany with a frothy tan head that settles to a firm layer and leaves some nice lacing.
S: Roasted malt, faint smoke, fruity notes, tropical and citrus fruit, spicy pine, bready malt, toffee sweetness, but also a little fusel alcohol.
T: Roasted malt, dark chocolate, espresso, and a hint of smoke, tropical fruit, mango, passion fruit, guava, and and apricot, spicy pine, citrus, orange, grapefruit, and lemon, bready malt, and toffee sweetness, with a little alcohol poking through.
M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly creamy, with a little warmth as it goes down.
O: I'm a sucker for black IPAs so I had to try this one. That said, it's a tough call for me. There are moments here and there that are a little rough, but there are also moments when it comes together. For as big of a beer as it is, it's fine, but I also don't think it needed to be quite this big; sub 10% would probably have worked better. (It's also a full 1% stronger than the beer it's loosely based on.) Overall I'm happy I got to try it, but I probably won't be in any hurry to drink it again.

Pours with a brown, somewhat transparent stream, similar to your typical imperial brown ales. A semi-aggressive pour gives me a finger and a half of khaki-colored head that exhibits pretty good retention, considering the ABV on this thing. There is no lacing left on the glass. Smell is very WC IPA-like. There lots of grapefruit and pine flavors, as well as a noticeable malt background. The nose is about medium in intensity. In terms of taste, this also tastes closer to other heavy WC IPAs, than to other Cascadian ales that I've had. Lots of hop presence, and not enough roasted malt, in my opinion. This beer has a full body, medium carbonation, and the alcohol is pretty well-hidden, considering the ABV. Overall, this is an OK-drinking heavy IPA, but it's missing that roasty component that I really like in Black IPAs.

Canned 11/05/18
Appearance - Pours dark, cola brown with a tan, half finger width head that fizzes away like soda, leaving a barren surface. No lacing.
Smell - Tropical hops and lesser roasty malt with some caramel and a bit of alcohol. Hmm.
Taste - The flavor profile clashes. Tropical, fruity hops and a lightly roast malt profile with a touch of caramel sweetness. Finish is quick, thankfully, with a hint of coffee and fruit lingering in the aftertaste. It's not completely undrinkable, I guess.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with light carbonation. Slick texture makes it an easy drinker before a mostly dry finish. Smooth for the high ABV.
Overall - Trying to resurrect the style with this? Yeah Dust Bowl, you may have just driven the nail into it instead. Did anyone actually try this before canning? The clashing flavors mix together about as well as oil and vinegar. On a positive note, it's an easy drinker for a 11.4% brew.
