In preparation for our 10th anniversary we allowed some of our best big beers to take a rest in oak barrels for a while. This is a blend of whiskey barrel aged Great Impression Stock Ale, Soul Crusher, Black Blizzard Russian Imperial Stout and brandy barrel aged Public Enemy Baltic Porter. The roast of Black Blizzard is tempered by the ruminess of Soul Crusher, while the big malty notes of Great Impression and Baltic Porter are further complimented by the vanilla and coconut notes from the barrels.

Bomber from Tavour. Dark brown pour, thin, patchy head. Aroma is woody, nutty, prunes, raisins. Taste is all of that with some nice boozy warmth. Minor sweetness. Full.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with a slight head and lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, plums, caramel, dates, oaky vanilla and a hint of brandy. Flavor is dark, lightly toasted malt, dry caramel, oak, vanilla, dates and figs; finishes with woody caramel and fresh and dried dark fruit, slightly astringent at the end. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A pleasant, oaky strong ale that hits most flavor characters from the style. Not familiar with the base beers, but the stout, Baltic porter and stock ale components seem to be the dominant ones. Flavor leans to dark fruit and is a little more woody than I'd expect, but a well done big ale and a nice addition to the American strong ale line up.

Ink black body; off-white head, dense and creamy with sheets of bubbly, sticky foam inside the glass. Warm and rich caramel and roasted grain smell; a bit of smoke; vanilla and roasted nuts. Flavors of sweet malt, charred and roasted; burnt sugar; bitter and mildly boozy; bourbon. Heavy body; some residual sugar presence; boozy heat.
Not an imperial stout or porter, but a damn straight-forward boozy strong ale.
